The Philippines | 2015

After a brief stopover in Hong Kong, I made my way to The Philippines, a nation consisting of over 7,000 islands. I chose to visit Coron, Palawan - more specifically Sangat Island. This area is celebrated as among the best ship wreck diving in the world. During WWII the USS Lexington successfully bombed a fleet of Japanese naval vessels in the immediate area. During my week stay on paradise island, I became PADI Open Water Diver certified and dove one geothermal lake, two coral reefs, and four sunken WWII Japanese naval vessels.

Diving 20m below the surface into a deep dark abyss, squeezing through tight passageways, and floating weightless through a wreckage of twisted metal left me with a feeling of awe. These once massive commanding ships now quietly lay at the bottom of the sea. It was an achievement and experience of a lifetime.
