San Diego, CA | 2016
While serving the US Navy, my father was stationed in San Diego, CA. Growing up, I heard tales of him and my mom driving across the Mojave desert in a Ford Pinto, with no air conditioning, while pregnant with my sister. I heard countless stories of how amazing San Diego was, nestled between a mountain range and the Pacific Ocean. I finally had to see their old stomping grounds for myself. While there, I stayed in La Jolla, visited a beautiful lighthouse with spectacular Pacific views at Point Loma, crossed the bridge into Coronado - drove down the strand where the US Navy Seals train, and finally down to Imperial Beach. Highlights of the trip were touring the USS Midway, eating BBQ at the 'Top Gun' bar, and enjoying beer, babes, and gasoline fumes at Super Cross downtown San Diego.
A couple of long-haired beard-wearing life long friends of mine, Jeremy and Kristin, set out on an American road trip adventure. Jeremy put on a tool belt and even built their home-on-wheels by hand. With their camper in tow, their jobs and home (in Austin, TX) in the rear view mirror, and thousands of miles on the horizon, they set off on their journey. They eventually ended up in San Diego and lived happily ever after...THE END! I know right, sounds like a movie. After a quick phone call, a plane ticket, and a packed bag, I was on my way to meet these two vagabonds. I celebrated my 33rd birthday on the chilly East Coast so it was only fitting to celebrate my 35th birthday on the sunny West Coast.
